Once Upon A Nightmare FAQs

Yes, pre-booking for Once Upon A Nightmare is essential. Adults and children require tickets.

Yes! Children with a Breeze Pass get discounted tickets at Once Upon A Nightmare. Check out your Breeze Pass app for how to book with your Breeze Pass. 

Yes! Lotherton members get discounted tickets at Once Upon A Nightmare. Members can only purchase tickets under the membership price for the quantity the pass covers eg family membership allows discounted tickets for two adults and two/three children (depending on your membership). Single adult membership allows one adult ticket only. 

This event is aimed at 8 years plus. It is not suitable for timid children. There will be live scare actors who will interact with you along the route. These actors may come close to you but they will not touch any visitors. The route goes through the estate grounds and woodland and will be dark in areas. 

We strongly advise not to bring under 8s, however it is down to parental discretion.

There will be very dark areas and also live scare actors as part of Once Upon A Nightmare.

Lotherton also have a Spooky Skeletons: Scarytales trail between Sat 26th Oct – Sun 3rd Nov. This is suitable for families with children aged 8 and under. (27 Oct – 5 Nov 2023,  9am – 5pm). 

You will need a separate ticket for Once Upon A Nightmare and the daytime Skeleton Trail. These are aimed at different aged children. For the spooky skeleton trail you just need a Lotherton Admission ticket. More info can be found at museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk/lotherton

Once Upon A Nightmare will be running between 25th and 31st October 2024!

Yes, there are set arrival times to make sure all our visitors can make the most of the event in comfort and safety. When booking you will choose a timed entry. We ask that you arrive at Lotherton at least 30 minutes before your booked time.

Entry times between 5.30-8.30pm

Please print your tickets out and bring them with you or have them ready on your phone on arrival.

We advise all visitors to wrap up warm and wear appropriate footwear as this is an outdoor event in October. There are also some very dark areas and so you may wish to bring a torch!

If you are a Lotherton membership holder, you also need pre-booked tickets and your valid card, ready to present to the kiosk when you arrive. 

If you are a Breeze Pass member, you will also need to bring the phone with your active Breeze Pass app on it, ready to present to the kiosk when you arrive. 

 

Please check your junk mailbox to see if the email has gone in there. Failing that send an email to tickets@leeds.gov.uk or call 0113 376 0318 (phone lines open Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm) and we will do our best to find your booking and resend the email.

You can also access your tickets through your Leeds Ticket Hub account. 7 days prior to your visit these will appear in the ‘upcoming events’ tab on your account on Leeds Ticket Hub.

There will be drinks, hot food & snacks available.

The Shepherds Hut will be open for you to gather your wits and warm up with a hot chocolate, hotdog, burger or spooky snack!

The café shall be closed at the time of the event.

The rest of the estate shall be closed at the time of Once Upon A Nightmare. There will be no access to the hall, café or Wildlife World.

Yes, the paths around the woods are fairly flat, solid and wide, making it easy to access for wheelchairs.  There is one part of the walk that is a short slight incline.

Parking

Admission includes parking charges. Please advise the cabin staff on arrival if you require accessible parking or any other access assistance.

Bus

Bus numbers 64 and 64A go to Aberford from Leeds city centre. There is then an approximate 20 – 30 minute walk along a public highway with limited footpaths.

Rail

The nearest train station is Garforth, located 4 miles away. Taxis are available from the station.

Dogs are NOT allowed in the gardens, woods and village when Once Upon A Nightmare is running. This is due to sound and lighting effects and we need to ensure the comfort and safety of all our guests and staff. They are allowed in the back fields for walking as usual. 

As well as Once Upon A Nightmare, Lotherton also have activities for younger children during the daytime. 

There is Spooky Skeletons: Scarytales. A daytime event perfect for all ages. As you wind your way through the beautiful grounds, gardens and house at Lotherton, all is not as it seems. Come face-to-face with a series of skeleton installations, making themselves at home and reimagining classic fairytales with a Halloween twist.

Also, Pumpkin Picking. New for 2024, hop onboard Lotherton’s legendary tractor trailer and be whisked to our patch, where you can pick out your own pumpkin to take home and decorate in time for spooky season

Daytime visitors must vacate the estate at 5pm – visitors cannot stay on for the evening event as this is a separate ticket and separate priced event.
