"To stop homophobia in schools across Leeds"

My idea:

If I was Children’s Mayor of Leeds, my main priority would be to tackle the homophobia problem in our schools. I know that it is not ok to make fun of people because of their sexuality and that’s why I want to change. I would raise awareness of the topic by making posters and putting them around Leeds. We would also design wristbands and there would be text on them saying “We are all Equal”. I want to make sure everyone know that people who are part of the LGBT community are the same as people who aren’t. I believe everyone should have the freedom and be comfortable with their sexuality and be proud.

How my idea will make a difference:

I think my idea will make a difference in schools because there are quite a few people I know who tend to say “That is so gay” and this can often offend others without them realising. With more campaigning and education children will realise that these kind of throw away comments are not ok. This will benefit everyone who are LGBT as well as those who actually say those things. I feel like spreading awareness will help people prevent the problem and make people think

Is it a low cost/no cost idea and can children be involved in it?

This idea will not cost much money wise but it mainly consists of respect, kindness and thinking before speaking.
