"Plant a personalised stone in a local park and actively explore to find more!"

My idea:

If I was Children’s Mayor of Leeds I would organise a fun week for children across the city. I would call it Leeds rocks! I would write to all the primary schools and ask them to take part in the activity. Children would need to paint a rock or more and place it in any local park within Leeds. The theme is - it’s good to be different! Children could paint their face and first name on the rock and what part of Leeds they are from. The idea is to get more children active and engaged in each other’s lives by walking and exploring with families to find rocks and also to find out where they are from.

How will my idea make a difference:

My idea will get people outside and being active with their families, friends and carers. It will benefit all children as it is free and will get children visiting different parks around Leeds making them explore the nature around them. Children will be able to learn about different places in Leeds and the diversity of people that live here. While children are out in the parks looking for / planting stones they will meet new people doing the same thing. This will be an opportunity for children to make new relationships with people they might not have had chance to do.

Is it a low cost/no cost idea and can children be involved in it?

My idea does not cost any money apart from the paint. Most families/carers will probably have this at home. However, I think it would be a great opportunity for schools to come together to make their stones with other classes in school for example Y6 working with reception.

The idea is for schools at the end of my year as Leeds Children's Mayor to post a picture of the stones collected/kept by pupils at their school. These could be displayed on the school website and used in the playground to decorate.
